A special meeting of the Council for the City of Crystal Falls was held in the Council Chamber of the City Hall on Wednesday, April 26, 2006 at 4:00 p.m. Central Time. Present: Mayor Hendrickson, Councilors Heikkinen, Thrasher, Valesano and Stachowicz. Absent: None Also present were City Manager Nordeman, City Attorney Lawrence, City Clerk/Treasurer Olson, Mark Simeoni, Larry Bicigo, and Richard Hendrickson. The purpose of this special meeting was to discuss and consider action on: Iron County Human Services Board offer dated 04/21/06 regarding funds for the Crystal Manor building; and, a Resolution for 2006 Lions Club Citizen of the Year. Mayor Hendrickson led all present in the Pledge of Allegiance. The offer dated 4/21/06 from the Iron County Department of Human Services Board was for $100,000, paid in 4 equal payments of $25,000 beginning September 2006 and ending in 2009 in exchange for releasing the County of any and all responsibility relative to the Crystal Manor building. The deadline imposed for acceptance of this proposal was set as May 15, 2006. A lengthy discussion ensued and the consensus of the Council was to delay a decision on the offer pending receipt of a commitment from a proposed private investor.Councilor Thrasher seconded by Councilor Heikkinen moved to adopt the following: RESOLUTION OF RECOGNITION OF THE 2006 LIONS CLUB CITIZEN OF THE YEAR WHEREAS, The Crystal Falls Lions Club called for nominations for the 2006 Citizen of the Year, and WHEREAS, The Crystal Falls Lions Club has duly selected Gene Fredericksen from those nominations based on his many contributions to the Crystal Falls community and surrounding area, and WHEREAS, Gene has owned and operated four different successful businesses in the area and also served with many local organizations including the Crystal Falls Business Association, the Crystal Falls Lions Club, the Sagola Township Sportsman’s Club, the Chippewa Sno-Kats Trail Club, the Crystal Falls Men’s Bowling Association, and the Crystal Falls Men’s Golf Club, and WHEREAS, Gene’s association with these various groups has established him as an outstanding asset to the Crystal Falls community, NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the City of Crystal Falls hereby expresses a big "Thank You" and is honored to recognize and congratulate Gene Fredericksen as the 2006 Citizen of the Year, a shining example of citizenship and truly in keeping with the city’s slogan "City of Community Pride". Resolution Adopted.Councilor Heikkinen seconded by Councilor Stachowicz moved to adjourn this meeting. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 5:08 p.m.
