A special meeting of the Council for the City of Crystal Falls was held in the Council Chamber of the City Hall on Tuesday, December 20, 2005 at 5:00 p.m. Central Time. Present: Mayor Hendrickson, Councilors Thrasher, Heikkinen, and Stachowicz. Absent: Councilor Valesano and Attorney Lawrence. Also present were City Manager Nordeman, City Clerk/Treasurer Olson, Chief Electrician David Graff, and WPPI representatives Marty Dreischmeier and Tom Paque. The purpose of this special meeting was to hear a proposal from Wisconsin Public Power, Inc. (WPPI) to sell the City wholesale electricity. Mayor Hendrickson led everyone in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. Tom Paque, WPPI Vice President of Marketing, handed out packets to those in attendance that gave some background on the organization. He then proceeded through a power point presentation on an overview of WPPI regarding their history and purpose. He addressed the proposal to the City noting that the City would basically be signing a letter of intent to become a full member of WPPI after a 5 year period. After those 5 years the City would be offered electricity at the WPPI average wholesale rate. Marty Dreischmeier, Directory of Planning for WPPI, gave a power point presentation on an overview of the WPPI power supply. He showed the Council various plants owned or partially owned by WPPI throughout the region that would be available to draw electric energy from. David Graff, Chief Electrician for the City, offered some insight to help the Council understand the prospect of buying electricity as a member of WPPI. He also noted that he has not yet had enough time to compile the facts regarding the pros and cons of joining WPPI. Mayor Hendrickson requested an extension of 30 days for the Council to consider the proposal offered, Tom Paque said it would not be a problem to allow them additional time to review the information before making a decision to sign (or not) the letter of intent. There was extensive discussion and many questions asked by the Council of the WPPI representatives. Mayor Hendrickson seconded by Councilor Stachowicz, moved to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 6:59 p.m.
