TENNIS ANYONE? Recent updates to the tennis courts at the Runkle Lake Recreation Complex have resulted in increased usage and many positive comments from residents and visitors. Much of the project was funded with grant monies secured by Jeff and Monica Joseph who also did a great deal of the work to refurbish the court surfaces. With the help of city work crews and volunteer Robert Fabbri much additional time was put into the project which was completed in 2007 and ready for use.
The nets have been aligned and put to proper height of 36 inches in center and center anchors and straps were installed to keep the net in place. Also added were the score cards on each set of nets allowing the players to keep track of their games and sets won. Two park style benches have been placed at the outside end of the net posts allowing players to sit and rest or for others to watch the game. Weeds were sprayed and removed from the cracks. Some cracks are being sealed with caulking to prevent further growth. A trash barrel has also been added to assist in keeping the area clear from debris.
Many people from the area as well as visitors to the community have now been using the courts, including Teal Joseph, who ran a one week Community Schools tennis camp. This camp gave more people an opportunity to learn the game of tennis, assuring the use of the courts in the future. A lot of work went into getting these courts into shape! Be sure to extend a big "THANK YOU"! to Monica & Jeff Joseph and Bob Fabbri when you see them as they were the driving forces that made this project happen. These people are truly in keeping with the City's slogan "City of Community Pride".
